Anemone × hybrida ‘Whirlwind’ is a fine late-season perennial, producing masses of semi-double white flowers with a golden-yellow eye on wiry, self-supporting stems. The dark green foliage forms good basal clumps from which the blooms rise through autumn.
Excellent for the middle of a large border, it prefers a fertile, moisture-retentive soil in a sunny position, though it will tolerate partial shade. It looks particularly striking combined with purple-foliaged forms such as Actaea simplex ‘Brunette’ and late-season yellow Rudbeckia.
