Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Scabiosa africana ‘Jocelyn’ bears large, pale lilac-pink flowers like ruffled pincushions, which sway on slender stems above clumps of finely cut, soft green foliage. Bred and introduced by Hardy’s, it is named after our son’s nanny, Jocelyn, who also came from South Africa.
Plant it in drifts through a gravel garden or as an individual accent in a rockery. Its flowers are also good for cutting for informal arrangements. Removing faded flowers helps prolong the display. Grow it in full sun in well-drained soil.
Half-hardy, it needs a sheltered position away from winter wet. At the nursery we grow it in a container and bring it under cover for winter; move it to shelter before the first autumn frosts.
