Sisyrinchium striatum bears soft yellow flowers with darker centres, clustered at intervals along upright stems in early summer. Fans of pale grey-green, iris-like leaves give this evergreen perennial structure and texture throughout the year.
Native to woods and scrub in Argentina and Chile, it becomes drought-tolerant once established and is useful in gravel gardens or dry, sunny planting. It grows best in full sun in well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil of low fertility. It can also cope with dappled shade where the soil is moist but free-draining; avoid sites prone to winter wet.
